This disaster was not very expected, but scientists predicted that there would only be a small earthquake, but did not think it would be so big and that there would also be a tsunami. Before the tsunami hit the country there was an earthquake which was like a warning to the citizens, the water started to get sucked back, which is a sign that a tsunami is about to struck the place. Other than that there were no warning as to why the tsunami occurred. Tsunami usually happen due to movement of the water or earthquake which disturb the ocean and the water due to the tectonic plates of the earth. The waves of the tsunami moved about 700 km per hour. There was said to be a one minute warning before the disaster occurred.

Warning signs appeared a short amount of time before the disaster occurred. Many of those who experienced the early warning signs claimed that the water had been sucked in, with barely any water viewed on the shores.
