The tsunami began with a 9.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the tip of Sumatra, Indonesia. Waves of up to 30 metres high swept through the countries, wiping out houses and community centres. After two hours of the earthquake, the tsunami waves reached Thailand, India and Sri Lanka. The most affected country of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami was Indonesia, which killed 160,000 innocent people.
